Building for sustainability is an exciting and constantly evolving field. Green Building LLC places a high value on continuous education in the industry, and we encourage you to seek out opportunities for increased knowledge. We are proud to have excellent relationships with strategic partners to offer the highest level courses possible including the US Green Building Council, Hawaii Chapter, and the Colleges throughout the University of Hawaii.

Our firm is offering the following courses and opportunities for growth in the upcoming months:

LEED AP Exam Prep Classes

Our full-day LEED Exam Preparation Workshops are designed to prepare you to pass the test with confidence - the first time. The workshops will focus on the key information necessary to pass the targeted LEED exam, including: LEED implementation process, project site factors, water management, energy impacts, synergistic opportunities, stakeholder involvement in innovation, project surroundings, public outreach & test taking tips and strategies. In addition to delivering the material in a clear and concise format, this workshop presents the types of questions that are asked on the exam so you know what and how to study. We review example scenarios from real world projects to help you better understand and remember the material while giving you an opportunity to put the concepts to practice. Our workshops conclude with an in-class practice exam and a take-home exam that accurately reflect the types of questions you'll see on the test.

A free 35-question LEED GA Sample Exam is available for download thanks to our education partner, GreenStep.

Introduction to Green Building (four day course)

Join the fastest growing industry in the United States! This class is intended to form a strong foundation in the fields of green building and energy efficiency. It will introduce participants to a variety of topics, upon which the US Green Building Council bases its LEED certification program, including: sustainable sites, indoor air quality, green materials, water conservation, and energy efficiency. Students will gain hands on experience using state of the art building performance testing equipment and will learn about green technologies and strategies that are appropriate for Hawaii’s unique climate zones. The class will finish with a one day LEED Green Associate (GA) Exam Preparation workshop.  After this four day intensive class, students will be fully prepared to take the nationally recognized LEED GA exam.

Energy Audit Training Courses

Home Energy Survey Professional Prep Class: The Hawaii Clean Energy Initiative calls for dramatic increases in energy efficiency in upcoming years. Jump into the exciting, fast growing field of improved energy performance and residential energy audits. This class will provide participants with training in energy efficiency and building science and will prepare them to take the nationally recognized RESNET Home Energy Survey Professional test. Participants will gain hands on experience using state of the art building performance equipment and will leave with an understanding of appropriate technologies and strategies for improved energy performance in Hawaii. Topics include: building envelope features and performance, mechanical equipment types, renewable energy uses, appliance and lighting characteristics, etc. This course is appropriate for contractors, architects, inspectors, or anyone looking to pursue a career in an emerging industry in Hawaii.

Building Operator Certification – Green Building LLC is proud to be a co-instructor for this eight day training being offered by UH Maui College’s Sustainable Living Institute of Maui. Classes consist of lecture, discussion, small group exercises, and facility tours. Facility projects require participants to demonstrate competence in locating building equipment, distribution pathways, and control points; calculating facility energy consumption; critiquing HVAC systems operation; and, sketching the facility's electrical distribution system.

WaterSense New Homes Inspector Training (new course)  – This full day course certifies individuals to become EPA WaterSense new homes inspectors. Participants will have both classroom and field experience identifying and quantifying water use and efficiency in homes. Participants will be required to have some prerequisite experience which is currently being outlined. Prerequisite experience will likely be RESNET HESP certification or LEED GA designation.

Realtor CE Classes (all classes are 3 CE credit hours)

Ongoing Private Training Sessions:

Green Building LLC can provide a host of training services for project teams, building owners, contractors, and developers related to green building practices, LEED, and energy audits.  We offer a complimentary brown bag lunch meeting to firms who wish to learn more about these fields.

Past Presentations and Classes:

Small Business and Residential Energy Management- This intensive 88 credit hour course was the first time that a HESP (Home Energy Survey Professional) course has been offered in Hawaii. Green Building LLC partnered with the Sustainable Living Institute of Maui and Energy Logic of Colorado to provide the training at UH Maui College. The initial offering of this course was January 2010.

Maui Community College Green Building Certifications- Our green building certification class has been taught through the college VITEC program for over a year.
