This affordable factory-built home is seeking certification under the LEED for Homes program.  Although fairly basic on the inside, it is the building envelope and elements that are not typically seen in Hawaii that make this home special. Built to National Energy Star standards in the factory, the home is shipped to Hawaii in two completely finished halves and can be assembled onsite and ready for occupancy in a matter of days. Green Building LLC is managing all parts of the LEED certification process from energy modeling to final inspections, and the certification will be completed when the home is moved to its final location. The home provides a good example of how building green does not have to be expensive.
